A fun day with the children in the wonderful ski area of Zauchensee is over. The grandparents are now looking after them at the hotel and there is just enough time for the parents to go out in the powder snow for the last two runs for the day.
Just as wonderful as the area is for children, it’s just as unique for carving and off-piste. In addition Zauchensee offers a very romantic scenery, cozy restaurants and countless slopes of all levels of difficulty.
Welcome to wonderful Zauchensee, where the skiing season already begins in one of the first weeks of December due to its location at 1350 meters. You can enjoy yourselves in the ski area right up until the end of April.
Zauchensee has everything a skier can dream about. There are both wide slopes, off-piste opportunities and wild World Cup slopes – and the area is close to the famous Absolut Park in Flachau Winkl, which is perfect for skiers looking for freestyle.
If you have visited Wagrain, you might also have been on a piste in Zauchensee, as it is possible to ski from Zauchensee all the way to Wagrain and Alpendorf via Kleinarl (a short bus trip is required). We can definitely recommend this as a day trip, but remember to be back in Zauchensee before the lifts close.
The ski area consists of a total of 44 km of slopes. 23,5 km of the slopes are blue, 16,2 km are red and 4,3 km are black. The slopes are connected by 14 lifts, 6 of which are chair lifts, and 6 are towed lifts, and the last 2 are a cable car and a gondola lift. The lifts and slopes are located between 1350 to 2188 meters.
If you are into off-piste skiing on your own, then Zauchensee is an obvious place. Most of the season offers great powder snow due to the high location of the area. The ski area ends in a small pot, and on the side of the pot you will find the best forest areas. Here you will find perfect conditions for off-piste and adventure, and there are also marked off-piste routes that are not being prepared.
If you are into freestyle, the area is perfect for you. Zauchensee is linked with Flachau Winkl, where you will find the famous Absolut Park. Here you can also have fun – whether you are new at this or know your way around the park. At the same time, you may be lucky to encounter some of the World´s most professional freestylers, who use Absolut Park as a training venue. You can also be spectators as the park offers many competitions. Read more at: http://www.absolutpark.com/
Zauchensee is the perfect place for a combined trip with alpine- and cross country skiing. From the city there is direct access to a 260 km connected trail network that extends through neighboring villages and valleys. From St. Johan to Radstadt the slopes bends through the stunning scenery.
The charm, the coziness and the snow are in top in Zauchensee.
Zauchensee is a small village, consisting of only a few hotels and ski rentals. In other words, you will not be able to shop or go to the supermarket*, but this is part of the charm and the reason why the village is such a unique gem with a beautiful winter landscape. Because of the size of the village, you do not have to worry about lift queues or that the slopes will have had too many skiers before you get a chance. From 09:00 – 12:00 you almost have the slopes entirely for yourself, and after lunch time the skiers from Wagrain and Kleinarl will come to try the amazing skiing and the perfect snow conditions in Zauchensee. When you are staying at Hotel Enzian, you will be just opposite the lift.
*However, snacks and drinks can be purchased at the ski rental shops. You can also take the bus or the car to Altenmarkt, where there are both shopping and cafes. It takes 20 min. by bus.
